Early Childhood Education
Interested in Early Childhood Education and working with students in classrooms as teachers, working in non-profits, early intervention, and/or educational consulting, the College of Education has many pathways forward to get you to that goal. Undergraduates at UMass Amherst may major in Education with a concentration in Early Childhood Education, leading to Massachusetts initial licensure (PreK–2). Early Childhood Education.
Through our online (University plus) working professionals can also achieve their BA and License for Early Childhood Education.
If you already hold a bachelor's degree, you can pursue a further masters degree. The Child Study & Early Education Master’s program gives students a broad overview of the educational and developmental needs of young children in early education, care settings, and with their families. We emphasize the study of the child individually and in groups, and with close attention to the cultural context, in order to develop accurate assessments and effective programming.
