Volunteers Needed for Study Investigating Impact of Old Age on Muscle Fatigue
Content
The Muscle Physiology Lab, led by Distinguished Professor of Kinesiology Jane Kent, is seeking volunteers to assist in discovering how muscle fatigue affects older adults.
Using cutting edge magnetic resonance imaging and spectroscopy techniques, the study aims to understand muscle fatigue from the molecular to whole-body level.
Interested participants may qualify for the study if they are a reasonably healthy, non-smoker between the ages of 30-40 or 70-80 years old who do not exercise heavily. Participants must be willing to undergo fatiguing tests on a treadmill and exercise machine as well as measurements of thigh muscle function and mobility.
During the study, which will require three or four visits to the laboratory, participants will complete paperwork and questionnaires, perform mobility and strength assessments, perform muscle contractions while having an MRI of their thigh muscle and walk on a treadmill for 30 minutes.
Participants will be compensated up to $220 and receive information about their muscle composition and strength.
