The School of Public Health and Health Sciences welcomes Tim Leshan, Chief External Relations and Advocacy Officer for the Association of Schools and Programs of Public Health (ASPPH), on Thursday, September 26th, for a special talk titled "Public Health Is Critical for Democracy." The event will take place from 1-2 pm in Life Sciences Laboratory S330/S340. It is free and open to the public.
In his guest lecture, Leshan will discuss how public health is the backbone of democracy. He will also provide insights about the pending election and the potential consequences for public health. In addition, Leshan will describe several resources ASPPH has to offer its members including a new Messaging Guide, the Voting is Public Health campaign and ASPPH’s policy priorities. Those who attend will leave with a clear idea of how ASPPH is making an impact for academic public health, and with some tools to play a role in advocacy.
Leshan leads the ASPPH’s public affairs and advocacy efforts. This includes internal and external communications, advocacy for academic public health, global affairs, and fundraising. ASPPH is the leading voice for academic public health, with members from around the US and the globe. Leshan takes a proactive approach that has resulted in the development of reports on gun violence prevention, the impact ASPPH members made during the COVID pandemic, and achieving funding increases for key federal public health programs.
