Fiona Almeida, a second-year doctoral student in the Community Health Education program, joined a panel discussion at Wellesley College's Madeleine Korbel Albright Institute for Global Affairs on October 21, 2023. The panel brought together a group of former Albright Fellows to discuss "15 Years of the Albright Fellow Experience" as part of the Albright Institute's 15th year anniversary.
The Albright Institute for Global Affairs draws linkages between education and practice for aspiring global leaders and exemplifies and advocates for the value of diverse and multidisciplinary perspectives when addressing global challenges. Their flagship fellowship program selects 40 Fellows per year to participate in an intensive training in global affairs followed by a practicum experience.
The panelists discussed topics related to the Albright Institute's anniversary theme of "Negotiating for Humanity." A 2014 Albright Fellow and class of 2015 Wellesley College alumna, Almeida addressed advocacy for gender-based health solutions on reproductive health, and specifically, on menstrual equity and period poverty.
While an Albright Fellow, Almeida applied and received a grant through Davis Projects for Peace to develop a reproductive health program in Karnataka, India. Her work there is ongoing and a focus of Small Acts for Sustainability, a non-profit organization founded by Almeida whose mission is to empower, educate and engage women and youth from marginalized communities by focusing on education, menstrual hygiene and mental health.
