Description

Infectious diseases are major contributors to public health burdens throughout the world. Vector- borne diseases (those carried by mosquitoes, ticks, fleas and others) are an important part of this complex landscape. The surveillance and control of vector-borne diseases (including dengue, malaria, Lyme disease and others) require special approaches and techniques, and this course serves as a introduction to this field of public health entomology. This course will help build a skilled workforce with foundational knowledge to address emerging and re-emerging infectious diseases. It will introduce students from various departments to the applied techniques needed for practical public health responses to issues at the local, regional and international scale. This will include an emphasis on One Health approaches, and the risk of emerging infectious diseases.
