Epidemiology Admissions 4+1 BS/MPH
Admissions to 4+1 BS/MPH program.
The accelerated master's degree program in epidemiology is designed to offer high-achieving undergraduate students the opportunity to earn a graduate degree with only one year of graduate studies after completing their undergraduate degree.
The program is rigorous and demanding, requiring students to take courses toward a graduate degree during their last year of undergraduate studies. Students in the program complete the remaining requirements for the graduate degree during one year of study as a graduate student.
Students in the accelerated program in epidemiology have the option of pursuing a master of public health (MPH) or a master of science (MS) degree.
Any Five College undergraduate student may apply to the program — eligibility for the program in epidemiology is not restricted to UMass Public Health Sciences students.
Students must be in good standing (minimum GPA 3.2) in their undergraduate program and be taking enough credits to leave room for required graduate coursework during their final undergraduate year. For the UMass Public Health Sciences major, this generally requires completing at least 96 credits by the end of Junior year.
The MPH in epidemiology requires 42 credits in coursework. The MS in epidemiology requires 45 credits of coursework, including a master’s thesis. The accelerated degree program requires students to take 12 of these graduate credits while still an undergraduate student; the remaining credits (30 for the MPH, and 33 for the MS) are taken after completing the undergraduate degree.
Application:
To apply, students are required to submit a completed Accelerated Master’s Degree Program in Epidemiology Application, unofficial transcript, and two letters of recommendation.
Letters of recommendation should come from faculty or an internship/work supervisor. In the application, students should indicate whether they intend to pursue the MPH or MS degree (or are undecided).
Completed applications are due by Jan. 15.
Completed applications should be submitted using the following link: https://tinyurl.com/ypa6a5xf.
