UMass Amherst Chapter of MANRRS is Seeking Paid Intern for Fall 2024

In May of 2023, the Stockbridge School of Agriculture established the first New England chapter of Minorities in Agriculture, National Resources, and Related Sciences (MANRRS).
Dedicated to empowering historically underrepresented students in agricultural sciences, natural resources, and affiliated domains, the Atlanta, Georgia-based MANRRS provides members with invaluable access to opportunities within the agricultural and scientific community. These include forging professional connections with mentors, partner organizations, and industry leaders, as well as engaging with MANRRS collegiate chapters across 30 states.
Mateo Rull Garza, who co-founded the chapter alongside Dr. Jaime Piñero, immigrated from Mexico in 2016 and joined UMass Amherst in 2022 to pursue a master’s degree in plant and soil sciences. “I wish I had something like MANRRS during my undergraduate career,” reflected Rull Garza. MANNRS, as described by Rull Garza, "creates unprecedented professional development opportunities on campus while connecting minority students to a nationwide network of peers that look, sound, and act like them.” In less than a year, the UMass chapter had been recognized by the Massachusetts Department of Agricultural Resources and sponsored by the Centers for Food, Agriculture, and the Environment, the American Farmland Trust, and the Office of Equity and Inclusion at UMass Amherst.
As the UMass Amherst chapter of MANRRS grows, it has entered into a collaboration with the Massachusetts Food System Collaborative, through which a paid internship opportunity has been launched.
This internship will allow students from across the entire college to dive into cutting-edge agricultural and environmental policy issues. “Interns will have the opportunity to conduct research, engage with stakeholders, craft expert communications, and assist in the most important food-related conference in the state, the annual Food System Forum,” said Rull Garza.
MANRRS’s application for this Fall 2024 internship is now live. All undergraduate and graduate students, regardless of background, year, or prior experience, are eligible to apply. Click here to submit your application.
