HFA Winter Courses to Include New Linguistics and French Options for Students
Content
The College of Humanities & Fine Arts (HFA) will offer two classes in linguistics and French during the winter 2024 session, which runs from Dec. 18, 2023 through Jan. 31, 2024.
The linguistics course "Advanced Computational Linguistics" is an introduction to how language use and meaning are analyzed and implemented within the field. Students in the class will focus on structured probabilistic language models—meaning they'll gain valuable insight into the necessary core skills that differ from "off the shelf" techniques that can be used in user-facing NLP systems.
The French course, "French for the Science Professions," offers the unique opportunity for students to build French language-based worlds in the Minecraft video game.
Additional HFA classes are available in Afro-American Studies; Architecture; Comparative Literature; English; German; History; Languages, Literatures, and Cultures; Philosophy; and Spanish.
Students are encouraged to consider taking classes during the 2024 winter session to earn valuable credits that can help them get ahead in their education, fulfill a requirement, or stay on track for graduation.
