Minor in Japanese Language and Literature
Get a different perspective on the world while building valuable language skills.
A minor in Japanese is an asset, no matter which major or majors you pair it with. Because Japan is the world’s third greatest economic power and one of the most important trading partners of the United States, there will always be a need for Japanese speakers in a wide variety of fields. Further, a Japanese minor will help you think more critically and see the world from a very different perspective.
Students who choose to pursue a minor in Japanese complete the elementary level requirement in contemporary language as part of a total of 24 credits, choosing from the wide range of courses offered in language, literature, and culture. These include classes like Manga and Anime, Japanese Women Writers, Japanese Buddhism & the Literary Arts, and Japanese Popular Culture. Minors may also deepen their Japanese proficiency by spending a semester or year studying in Japan.
