About

Professional Bio

Patricia Gubitosi is a Professor of Hispanic Linguistics whose primary research interests are bilingualism and language contact, Hispanic dialectology and language identity. Her recent work focuses on Spanish and Portuguese minority groups living in Massachusetts and their linguistic diaspora.

Professor Gubitosi is originally from Buenos Aires, Argentina, where she finished her BA in Linguistics at the University of Buenos Aires. She also holds a BA in Music from the Conservatorio Nacional de Música. She finished her MA and PhD in Hispanic Linguistics at the University of Houston with a dissertation entitled La expresión de la pasividad en el discurso hispano en California y Nuevo México 1855-1950, where she reconstructed the Spanish use of passive voice in these dialects.

Professor Gubitosi is currently working on Spanish language use on the Internet with colleagues from the University of Buenos Aires and the University of Belgrano, Argentina.
