Visiting the coast is always one of my favorite parts of summer.

Summer break has allowed me to enjoy all the things I love that I may not have time for during the school year. While I still listen to music, watch movies, and indulge in my hobbies during the year, I have ample time to focus on them during the summer months. In this blog, I will talk about a few of my favorite things from summer 2024!

Favorite Summer Movie: Twisters

"Twisters," starring Daisy Edgar Jones and Glen Powell, was my favorite movie of the summer. I'm sure many others agree, as it received an audience rating of 91%. I saw it the day after its release because I was so eager to finally watch it. If you are looking for an action-packed movie with a good storyline, this is the one for you.

Favorite Artist of the Summer: Zach Bryan

During July I was lucky enough to score tickets to Zach Bryan’s concert at Gillette Stadium, and since then I have been listening to his music nonstop. I have always been a huge fan of Zach Bryan and his band, but once I saw them live I was truly able to appreciate their collective talent. I generally don’t like country music but there is something about his music that I just love. He also released his new album, The Great American Bar Scene on July 4th of this year, which has some amazing tracks I listen to every day.

Favorite Summer Hobby: Thrifting

Colorful clothes are visible on the rack at a thrift shop

While I wouldn’t consider this a quintessential summer activity, it is something I find myself doing much more in the summer. I have been thrifting for about six years and it has become one of my favorite hobbies and a great way to save money. It's also an environmentally friendly activity, and one I feel happy to participate in. This summer I have been thrifting a lot of long skirts and dresses, as well as artwork and trinkets. Decorating my room at school with secondhand pieces has been a fun and unique way to personalize my room without breaking the bank.

Song of the Summer: "On & On & On"

While Zach Bryan may be my favorite artist of the summer, my overall favorite song is by the talented Maggie Rogers. Earlier this spring, she dropped her new album, Don’t Forget Me, and I couldn't help but say it is the best album I'd ever heard! My favorite song on the album is "On & On & On," which I have been playing constantly since it was released in April. It must be great if I am still listening and as I write this, it's August!

My Summer Podcast: Motley Fool Money

Recently, I have been trying to pay more attention to economic news and things related, but I found it rather difficult — that was until I discovered Motley Fool Money. This podcast is for stock investors, and the hosts offer their perspective on long-term business news. This has been a great way for me to stay informed on news I didn’t previously pay attention to. I also figured that since I am about to graduate, it would be a great time to start being smart with my money.

Overall, this summer has been a fantastic time to explore and immerse myself in activities and interests that I truly love. Whether I was thrifting unique finds, enjoying blockbuster movies, or diving into new music and podcasts — each experience added a special touch to my break. I hope this blog provides some inspiration or new ideas for your summer. As we move back into the busy school year, I look forward to carrying these summer favorites with me and continuing to enjoy them whenever I can. Thank you for reading, and I hope your summer was as enjoyable and fulfilling as mine!
