Best of Western Mass: Pizza Places

Finding your favorite local pizza place is a hard task, as there are so many to choose from! In this blog, I review some of the well-known pizza shops in the area in hopes of finding my favorite. Antonio’s Pizza, Pinocchio Pizzeria, Primo Too, Amherst House of Pizza, and Bread Euphoria were just a few of my favorites.
Antonio’s Pizza

Easily the most popular pizza place in Amherst, Antonio’s offers delicious pizza-by-the-slice options and never disappoints. They are open into the late hours of the night but if you order before 9:30 p.m. you can get an entire pizza rather than just the slices. Many people say Antonio’s has the best New York-style pizza in the area and after several visits, I am inclined to agree. I have tried out the tortellini pesto; chicken, bacon, ranch; buffalo chicken; and tomato basil pizza, all of which were delicious. So if you are looking for pizza that you will know not disappoint, head to Antonio’s for a guaranteed good pie.
Pinocchio Pizzeria

This pizza place is similar to Antonio’s but is located in downtown Northampton. Here you will also find the pizza-by-the-slice options and these slices are quite large. Luckily, quantity does not affect their quality as the pizza is your classic delicious New York style. Pinocchio might be one of my favorite pizzas I have ever had so it is definitely worth the short trip to Northampton.
Primo Too Pizzeria

Primo Too is a great option for pizza if you are downtown and are looking for a classic, well-made pizza. When I visited I ordered a small pepperoni pizza which was the perfect size to share with one other person. The best part about Primo Too is that it wasn’t overly greasy and the crust wasn’t too thick or thin, it was just right!
Amherst House of Pizza

Amherst House of Pizza, or AHOP is a good late-night alternative to Antonio’s but is definitely a different pizza overall. Their pizza tends to be on the greasier side and has a thin, floppy crust which I personally enjoy. In the past, I have also ordered a full pizza from there and thought it was great. If you live on the north side of Amherst I would recommend checking this spot out as it seems like it might be a hidden gem.
Bread Euphoria

This pizza place is really not a pizza place at all, but rather a bakery and deli that happens to make pizza as well. It is located on the outskirts of Northampton, in Haydenville, but is definitely worth checking out. Here you can build your own pizza with a base of either tomato sauce, pesto, or garlic-oregano oil with mozzarella cheese. They offer plenty of toppings such as roasted red peppers, sauteed mushrooms, spinach, capers, artichokes, ricotta, and many more options (and of course your classic pizza toppings). When I inevitably return I will be ordering my own specialty pizza, but on my first visit I got a classic slice of cheese and it was fantastic. Bread Euphoria is a great spot to check out if you are looking to go for a drive and test out some deliciously unique pizza.
After tasting my way through these local favorites, I’ve realized there’s no single “best” pizza—each spot offers something special. Whether it’s Antonio’s late-night slices, Pinocchio’s perfect balance of flavor and size, or Bread Euphoria’s creative, bakery-fresh twist, every place brings its own charm to the table.
No matter your preference, Amherst and the surrounding area have plenty of options to satisfy any pizza craving—so grab a friend and start your own pizza tour!
