The Gilman-McCain Scholarship is allowing me to pursue a summer program that allows me to both explore the world and to gain hands-on experience for my college education. Being able to go to a bio-archaeology school in Romania feels like a once in a lifetime opportunity, and I'm so grateful for being able to go without the stress of financial burden because of this amazing opportunity. The Gilman-McCain Scholarship has given me the ability to pursue further educational interests without having the uncertainty from debt to continue to pursue my academic and career based goals. Going to university means that there is already a large cost, but it's things like this scholarship that make the additional education opportunities more accessible for people to pursue all sorts of programs they may have thought they didn't have access to, like for myself.
