Advising and Course Registration Checklist
Advising appointments for first year and transfer students will open on June 9 and will run until July 25. Be on the lookout for an invite email to sign up for that appointment along with a pre-advising appointment with a current College of Education Student. Emails from the College of Education go out each Monday during the New Student Orientation Advising Period.
Advising
To schedule your advising appointment:
- First, complete the Guide to the U.
- The Guide to the U is an online platform that introduces you to the UMass community and the available resources to support you. All students are required to complete the Guide to the U in order to attend Ready for the U and schedule an advising appointment!
- Then, be on the lookout for an invite email to sign up for your two advising appointments. You may schedule your appointments through that email, or via the links below.
- Pre-advising appointment with a NSOT Peer Advisor
- Advising appointment
Course Registration Checklist
Before your advising session, please be sure to:
- Complete both the Math Placement and Writing Placement Tests.
- Send in AP scores though College Board, if applicable.
- Complete the Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA) form if you wish to have a parent/guardian in the advising session.
- Have access to a computer (NOT a phone or tablet) for your appointment and that you have downloaded and updated Zoom, and have the ability to share your screen.
- Start getting familiar with important resources.
- Learn how to use Spire to find and enroll into courses.
- Use the Schedule Builder tool to help you build the best class schedule based on your needs.
- Look at the list of General Education Courses. The General Education Program provides students with experiences, knowledge, and skills necessary to become well-educated, successful, and valuable contributors to our ever-evolving global community. - Connect your phone, tablet and computer to the Campus wireless network.
