We’re proud to announce that Associate Professor Torrey Trust, Senior Lecturer Robert Maloy, and Senior Lecturer Allison Butler (Communications Department) and MSLT doctoral student Chenyang Xu were selected for the 2021 Virtual Conference Team Technologies Award for their collaborative work on the eLearning project: "Civics, Government, and Media Literacy Learning for Middle and High School Students and Teachers." This interdisciplinary team created a media literacy learning pathway, featuring 50 interdisciplinary media literacy, civics, and government learning activities. This work is featured in the eBook, “Democracy for All: Interactive Explorations of Government and Civic Life”, and was made possible by a UMass Amherst Interdisciplinary Faculty Research Award.

The award reviewers had this to say about the team’s project:

“This is an outstanding team who has created a tool that will empower students, teachers, and all learners.”

“This resource brings together the most important education concepts and goals I have ever seen.”

“If I had this textbook as a student it would have transformed my learning in extraordinary ways. The lesson plans contained are fun, informative and allow students to express themselves in their work and be creative.”

“They are unmatched educators!!”

We congratulate the team on the award, and applaud their timely and powerful work!
