Jeanne Brunner, assistant professor of math, science, and learning technologies (MSLT), Kathleen Mahoney, MSLT doctoral student, and Christine McGrail, MSLT doctoral candidate, presented a workshop at the National Science Teaching Association's national conference on July 21 in Chicago.

During their session, titled "Humanizing Science: A Rubric for Evaluating Science Trade Books," participants learned how to use a rubric designed by Brunner, Mahoney, and McGrail to select elementary-level books that focus on the human aspects of science.

Participants also practiced designing questions and leading read-alouds that highlight the diversity of people who do science, creativity in science, and the use of evidence in making scientific claims. Way to go, Jeanne, Kathleen, and Christine!
