Three Multicultural Student Achievement Network (MSAN) Scholars from Amherst-Pelhman Regional Schools visited UMass in early December, meeting with the UMass Educator Licensure Advisory Council (ELAC).
The visit aimed to deepen the partnership between the College of Education at UMass and Amherst Public Schools by inviting students and their mentors to be a resource for the UMass educator licensure programs.
The three students began the day by answering panel questions and telling stories about their teachers and classrooms to ELAC members. They then worked with small groups of faculty to discuss ways to better prepare educator candidates to be more effective educators as they enter the classroom. The scholars finished their visit in the Center for Racial Justice with Shannon Laribo and Linda Ziengenbein.
The ELAC meets once per month to discuss licensure regulations, share resources, and present information to each other.
