Krezmien comments on at-risk rural youth in WalletHub article

Michael Krezmien, professor of special education, recently contributed to an article by financial research firm WalletHub that focuses on at-risk youth in the U.S. Krezmien addresses ways that local and state leaders can enhance educational and vocational opportunities for rural youth.

He notes that "One of the vital k-12 areas that state and local leaders should invest in is the development of new cross-district vocational programs that are linked to career paths that are high-growth areas and that are aligned with the student interests. These should include modern vocational programs in computer software engineering, web development, green technologies, electrical engineering, telecommunications, and advanced manufacturing. These types of programs provide students with a clear understanding of the link between education and employment and provide students with vital skills leading to high-paying careers with high potential for advancement."
