A new peer-reviewed journal, Counseling Scholarship & Practice in Educational Communities, has been launched to support research on school and college counseling. This online, open-access publication provides a platform for scholars and practitioners to explore pressing issues in the field.

The journal’s inaugural issue features an article by Carey Dimmitt and Claudia Smith, which examines the challenges foster care alumni face in higher education. Their research highlights the barriers these students encounter and presents the Advocating Student-within-Environment (ASE) approach as a strategy for school counselors to provide better support.

The journal is supported by the Center for School Counseling Outcome Research and Evaluation (CSCORE) within the UMass Amherst College of Education. By offering a space for research-driven discussions, Counseling Scholarship & Practice in Educational Communities fosters collaboration among educators and counseling professionals.

The journal welcomes contributions from those dedicated to advancing counseling practices in educational communities. To read the article and explore the journal, visit this link.
