Graduates of Research, Evaluation, Measurement, & Psychometrics go on to research and teaching positions at universities and colleges, foundations, research organizations, the armed services, government and credentialing agencies, medical boards, school systems, consulting firms, and private industry.
Degrees
The Research, Educational Measurement, & Psychometrics (REMP) doctoral program prepares students to develop and implement assessment, evaluation, and measurement practices that are relevant, responsive, and sustaining. We focus on the design and validation of educational tests, psychometric modeling, and the development of evaluation and assessment methods that are useful and valid.
Our curriculum provides students with deep expertise in areas such as response theory, classical test theory, structural equation modeling, test development and validation, scaling methods, and statistical techniques (including multivariate statistics, non-parametric methods, regression analysis, and simulation). In addition, students will acquire core communication and collaboration skills that enable them to engage with a wide array of diverse stakeholders, including practitioners, policy makers, scholars, and funders. Students learn to critically design assessments that account for the full range of cultural, linguistic, and socio-economic diversity in educational contexts. Emphasis is placed on equitable practices that ensure assessments are free from bias and reflective of the diverse populations they aim to measure.
We also prioritize inclusive research methods, encouraging students to examine how various groups—such as those defined by race, gender, ability, language, and socio-economic status—are represented and supported in educational measurement. Students are equipped with the tools to advocate for assessments that promote equity and accessibility, addressing disparities in testing outcomes and ensuring that assessments contribute to improving educational opportunities for historically marginalized groups.
Throughout the program, students engage with a wide variety of perspectives and practices, benefiting from interactions with a global network of scholars, practitioners, and visiting faculty who share insights on international best practices for inclusive assessment and psychometrics. Our students also receive extensive support for publishing their work, presenting at professional conferences, and contributing to the development of inclusive standards and policies in the field.
Moreover, all full-time students admitted to the program receive comprehensive financial support for three years, including a stipend, university fees, and medical insurance, ensuring that all students have equal access to the resources they need to succeed, regardless of financial background.
The Program Evaluation Graduate Certificate is a fully online 15-credit program of study in which participants learn the fundamentals of program evaluation--including engaging with stakeholders, evaluation contracting & budgeting, logic modeling, evaluation design, mixed methods, data visualization, cultural responsiveness, and facilitating use. Whether you work in a small non-profit setting, a large governmental agency, an international program, a grant-making foundation, or in a multi-agency network, this Program Evaluation Graduate Certificate will increase your capacity to design and carry out useful, feasible, methodologically robust, ethical, socially just program evaluation.
The Data Analysis, Assessment, & Research in Education master's degree is ideal for students seeking to understand the fundamental underpinnings of educational assessment and research and to apply this knowledge in the use of assessments and to inform policy in education. Many students pursue this advanced training to complement work they currently do in schools, departments of education, or testing agencies. The program consists of 11 courses in statistics, research methods, test theory, and policy, and a pro-seminar capstone course in which the course experiences are synthesized.
