About the Program
The Higher Education 4+1 Accelerated Master's program allows you to earn your Bachelor's and Master's degrees in just 5 years. If admitted to this program, you will begin taking graduate courses during your senior year and finish your M.Ed. with one, rather than the typical two, additional years.
Undergraduate students from all majors or colleges are eligible and encouraged to apply for this program if they want to pursue a career in higher education.
There are no pre-requisite courses for admission. However, we encourage students to take EDUC 393F Leadership Careers in Student Affairs or EDUC 300 Current Issues in Higher Education, along with at least one Social Justice Education course before applying.
This degree prepares you for many leadership roles as a higher education or student affairs professional. That may include:
- Academic advising
- Admissions
- Campus activities
- Disability services
- Fraternity and sorority life
- Multicultural services
- New student orientation and transition
- Recreational sports
- Residential life and residential education
You can read more about the student affairs profession here.
The M.Ed. also prepares you for pursuing more advanced degrees, such as a PhD, or for roles in various corporate, nonprofit, and community organizations.
