Environmental and natural resource economics (ENRE) at UMass Amherst offers an in-depth exploration of economic issues surrounding the sustainable use, management, and protection of our natural resources. With population and income growth increasing pressure on our planet, the need for innovative solutions to these problems has never been greater. Our program gives students the analytical skills to address critical environmental challenges, contributing to the future health of our economy and planet.
As a student in the major, you will study topics like water quality and supply, climate change, air pollution, environmental and energy policy, and clean energy solutions. Through collaborative learning, you will develop proficiency in benefit-cost analysis, statistical programming in R, and policy evaluation. Our curriculum is focused on quantitative skills and includes cross-disciplinary study in fields like public policy, health, and behavioral economics.
Our graduates are prepared for a wide array of careers in the public sector, consulting, finance, environmental conservation, and for pursuing graduate degrees in resource economics, economics, and related disciplines.
