At the UMass Amherst College of Social and Behavioral Sciences, we're interested in how you will influence society. Thanks to you, the world will never be the same.

The social sciences are critical to our understanding of human behavior and society—through our work, we can better address large-scale problems such as war, poverty, and climate change. Our students become thought leaders in their fields—fearless thinkers who challenge conventional wisdom and develop revolutionary ideas and solutions for our society's most critical issues.

The College of Social and Behavioral Sciences (SBS) is home to 10 departments, each with a different yet equally important focus on our world. Our undergraduate, graduate, and certificate programs allow you to choose the subject area most appealing to your interests and goals.

Through SBS, you will choose an academic path that bridges science and liberal arts—but that path won't define you. We encourage students to pursue cross-disciplinary studies, take classes outside of their chosen major, and participate in discussions and projects that allow them to broaden their perspectives. The SBS Pathways Center will support you in developing your vision of success, helping you set goals, and guiding you toward the specific skills, experiences, and insights you will need to achieve them.
