Now that you’ve done some exploring, and reflecting, it’s time to kick your search into gear.  You don’t need to know exactly what you want to do at this point, but narrowing your areas of interest will give you a great starting point. Use these tips and tools and get started today!

The Job Search Process

  • Get organizedSet up a system of tracking your contacts, resume submissions, interviews, etc. 
  • Be current. Make sure your LinkedIn profile and resume are up to date.
  • Network. Build mutually beneficial relationships with people
  • Practice Interviewing. Practice with friends and family and ask for feedback.
  • Research Employers. Use resources like Vault and LinkedIn employer pages

The site provides full, up to date information on over 3,000 organizations offering internships and summer jobs for students.  The general format is listings in "books" by general area of focus.  Examples include Internships in International Affairs, Women's Rights Internships, Advertising Agencies, Media Internships, Sports Internships, Green Internships, Internships with America's Top Companies, History & Museum Internships, Congressional Internships, Internships in Law & Policy, and more.  These books are by no means comprehensive, but there are excellent opportunities listed, and they will help you generate ideas about the types of organizations you may want to explore.  Username: UMass  Password: Minutemen (case sensitive, and you must type it in - NOT copy/paste).
