Kinesiology lecturer Gregory Grinnell is one of eight UMass Amherst faculty members who have been selected as 2023-24 Lilly Fellows for Teaching Excellence by the Center for Teaching and Learning (CTL).
Established in 1986, the Lilly Fellowship for Teaching Excellence supports the university's strategic interest in developing academic leaders in the area of teaching. During their fellowship year, participants attend regular seminars on pedagogy, develop a new course or substantially redesign an existing one, complete a teaching portfolio that includes teaching reflections and activities adapted to the course and work collaboratively to anticipate many of the challenges and rewards of faculty life at UMass Amherst.
Grinnell, who recently received the school’s College Outstanding Teacher Award, will redesign KIN 110: Human Performance and Nutrition. The course will integrate team-based learning strategies to foster active student participation and deepen their understanding of human performance and nutrition. Through collaborative projects, interactive discussions, and practical applications, students will engage in a dynamic learning experience that prepares them for real-world challenges in the field.
