Job Searching with Recruiters

Students can use a staffing agency (also known as an employment agency, recruitment firm, or staffing firm) to find jobs. A staffing agency is an organization that works with a wide range of employers to match the employer with job candidates.   Many times a recruiter will reach out to you on LinkedIn, so make sure your LinkedIn Profile is up to date.

Recruiters are often placing new graduates in contract positions, which is usually paid hourly, with no benefits. This is an excellent way to get into a company, learn the culture, decide if you want to work there going forward, and network your way into a permanent job. Some recruiting companies that do this in the Life Sciences include ClinLab Staffing, HireMinds, Stratacuity Staffing Partners, IntePros Consulting, Randstad Life Sciences and Commonwealth Sciences.

Working with a recruiter can broaden the visibility of your resume to a variety of companies. While this can be a benefit, we encourage students to be aware of where the staffing agency recruiter is sending your resume and who is seeing it. Some agencies specialize in certain industries, so we encourage students to research an agency’s specializations.

** There is no need to pay a staffing agency to help you find an entry-level job after graduation.  Work with us in the CNS Career Center to do that.

Here is an article to assist you in learning more about staffing agencies.
