Navigate is UMass Amherst’s undergraduate student success system. Navigate is utilized campus-wide by students, faculty and staff. Student Success Programs & Services within the Student Success unit administers and manages Navigate. UMass Amherst is a member of the Educational Advisory Board’s (EAB) Student Success Collaborative (SSC). Through the partnership with EAB, UMass Amherst has implemented Navigate across campus. For Undergraduate Students
Utilize Navigate to schedule appointments with campus resources, review course progress feedback and connect with your success team. All undergraduate students currently enrolled at UMass Amherst automatically have access to Navigate.
Through Navigate, connect with:

Academic Support with the Learning Resource Center (LRC) and department/major specific course support resources.

Advising and Peer Advising with your college’s advising office and academic dean’s office as well as some major-specific advising in your department.

Professor Office Hours to engage with your instructors. (Not all instructors utilize Navigate for office hours appointment.)

Research & Exchange Programs to connect with resources such as the Office of Undergraduate Research & Studies (OURS) and Domestic Exchange.

Student Financial Services with Smart about Money (SAM) to meet with a Peer Financial Educator.

Success & Wellness with the Center for Multicultural Advancement and Student Success (CMASS) and academic skills support with Student Success through the Success Toolkit Series.

Navigate is a retention and persistence tool designed to connect our university and enhance student success. Navigate offers staff and faculty:

Best-Fit Student Appointment Scheduling: Create efficiency in appointment scheduling with 2-way calendar integration. Engage students in the scheduling process based on your availability and services. Use for advising appointments, student support appointments, and office hours.

Document Interactions and Track Visits: Summarize your interactions and/or track visits at programs and events. Mark students as no-shows.

360 Student Profile: Access student information in a single place. From the student profile you can view the academic record, view all interactions and notes (for advising and beyond), message students, report on interactions, refer students and much more.
Three Steps to Navigate Access for Staff and Faculty
- Complete the online FERPA Certification.
- Apply for access in SPIRE
- From the SPIRE home screen, click the Profile tile, then Access & Privacy on the left side of the screen, and then SPIRE Access Request. Fill out the form and check the box for Student Success Collaborative Navigate.
- Participate in Training:
- After access request is approved, staff/faculty receive an invitation to participate in training.
