Music education graduate students Jessica Wiseman and Emma Rose presented their research at the National Association for Music Education’s 2023 Symposium on Music Teacher Education, held Oct. 12-14 at the University of Utah in Salt Lake City.
According to Daniel Albert, assistant professor of music education in Department of Music and Dance, selection for presentations for the biennial symposium is based on a highly selective double-blind, peer-reviewed process.
“It's a big deal for music education faculty to be selected to present their research at this event, and it's an especially big deal for a graduate student,” Albert said. “Emma and Jessica represented UMass Amherst extremely well and we are so proud of them and their work.”
Wiseman’s poster presentation, “Music and the Refugee: What Educators Should Know” and Rose’s poster presentation, “Centering Community Voices: Illuminating a Path Toward Increased Equity in Music Education” were aligned with this year’s symposium theme, “Elevating a Culture of Belonging,” focusing on diversity, equity, inclusion, access and justice.
Details on Wiseman and Rose’s presentations are available from the symposium’s website, while more information on the National Association for Music Education can be found on the NAME website.
