Madeleine Noland ’89, a graduate of the UMass Amherst College of Humanities and Fine Arts with a Bachelor of Music degree, is president of ATSC, The Broadcast Standards Association, which received a 2026 Technology & Engineering Emmy Award for its development of ATSC 3.0, a next-generation television broadcasting standard.

Presented by the National Academy of Television Arts & Sciences on October 14, the award recognizes the collaborative development of technology that enables ultra-high-definition video, immersive audio, and interactive television services.

“This Emmy belongs to the entire ATSC community,” Noland said in a statement announcing the award. “ATSC 3.0 is the result of extraordinary collaboration among hundreds of experts and organizations, past and present, who contributed their ideas, technical expertise, time and leadership over many years.”

The recognition marks ATSC's fourth Emmy Award for its contributions to television technology.

Noland began her career in the television industry in 2004 and has held leadership roles in the development of broadcasting standards. Before becoming ATSC president in 2019, she chaired the organization's technology group responsible for developing ATSC 3.0, contributing to the collaborative effort behind the Emmy-winning advancement.
