The field of philosophy has wide applications and a minor in the field will benefit anyone, no matter their ultimate career goals. Studying philosophy gives you the ability to analyze a problem carefully and consider it from many points of view, to communicate ideas clearly in a logically compelling form, and to handle many different kinds of problems. It is excellent training for careers in law, medicine, business, and teaching, among others. Further, because it focuses on such issues as values, knowledge, reality, religion, science, language, and society, the study of philosophy not only equips you with skills for a trade or profession, it also equips you with important skills for living.
The requirements of the philosophy minor are extremely flexible, allowing you to tailor it to your interests and needs. Students just need to complete a minimum of five courses, including three at the 300 level or above.
