Minoring in Philosophy

Students must complete a minimum of five Philosophy courses including three upper-division courses (300 level or above). With the exception of those taken during periods in which all such restrictions were removed, students may not take courses for the minor pass/fail, with the exception of courses numbered 501 and above. At least three of the five courses must be taken at UMass or the Five Colleges.

A student planning to minor in philosophy should consult an undergraduate advisor.

Declaring a Minor

A minor is declared after you have taken, or signed up for, at least five philosophy courses.

To declare a minor in Philosophy, you must:

  1. Print and fill out this form.
  2. Have it signed by a departmental advisor.
  3. Return it to the Philosophy Deptartment Main Office South College E302
