Are you interested in engaging in impactful research but unsure where to start? If so, join Stanford professor Tom Mullaney and University of British Columbia professor Chris Rea in their online workshop, “How to Ask Brilliant Questions” on Wednesday, February 12th at 12:15 p.m.
Rea shared that this workshop is an hour-long participatory Zoom where individuals will work through a number of exercises that will help them to “reconcile their own interests with those of the research community.” The workshop is based on Mullaney and Rea’s book, Where Research Begins: Choosing a Research Project That Matters to You (and the World). The book covers about a dozen exercises that help researchers find a problem that is personally important to them, as well as the world around them. Mullaney and Rea wrote the book for those struggling to choose a research topic, those who are intimidated by the research itself, and those who have a number of good ideas but need help finding one to commit to.
Ultimately, through their research and workshopping the book for several years, Mullaney and Rea found that “genius questions” emanate from the simple lessons they discuss in the book and the workshop.
This workshop is a great opportunity for those interested in engaging in impactful research, now or anytime in the future. Rea emphasized the importance of attending this workshop so that individuals can learn how to center themselves in their research and have the greatest impact while doing so.
If you are interested, be sure to register online by February 10, 2025. No preparation is required, but participation is highly encouraged.
