I got the opportunity to interview Evelyn Moore, a senior biology major, and a peer advisor in the Bloom Advising Center at Commonwealth Honors College.

What is the role of a peer advisor?
Peer advising is our biggest drop-in option for advising in the Honors College. It gives students the opportunity to come in anytime Monday-Friday from 9 a.m. - 5 p.m. with any basic questions, such as:
“What Honors courses would be great to take for my major?” or
“How do I balance Honors with my major and university requirements?" or
“How do I get involved in research?"
Any questions students have, they can drop-in!
What exactly is the “Shopping Cart Party”?
The Shopping Cart Party is essentially an opportunity for you to get help registering for classes and a space to speak with a peer advisor about their experiences and suggestions.
Sometimes finding Honors courses can be challenging and we can help you with this. It is very informal and it also gives students an opportunity to connect with the Honors staff members, which can be very beneficial in the future.
When and Where is the “Shopping Cart Party”?
It is November 6th 2023, from 11:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. in the CHC Events Hall. If you know you'll be coming by, let us know by registering — but you're welcome to drop in too!
How can students utilize the “Shopping Cart Party"?
While you're at Roots Café, come to the Events Hall next door and say hi! Even if you don't have questions, this will be a great time to just come and chit chat with some of the peer advisors! Maybe you will find a peer advisor that you connect with, and can potentially meet with in the future when you do have questions!
Why should students utilize this event?
Sometimes it can be scary to ask for help, but this event is very informal! If you are worried about registration, this is a great way to ease your nerves. This is also a great time for first years and sophomores to become familiar with the opportunities offered at CHC, and CHC in general.
