About the Role
The Student Success Assistant will focus on assessing student needs and barriers to success within the Honors College. This role will involve data collection, student outreach, and community engagement efforts to inform CHC programming and policies.
This position is ideal for students passionate about research, assessment, and community-building.
Key Responsibilities:
Student Experience & Engagement Research
Conduct surveys, focus groups, listening sessions, and interviews to understand student barriers to success to assist with:
- Assess experiences of transfer, international, and underrepresented students at CHC.
- Research major-specific academic challenges and student success trends.
- Analyze retention trends among students at risk of academic dismissal or transferring out.
- Investigate financial barriers affecting CHC students, including the affordability of CHCRC housing.
- Identify factors influencing first-year student acclimation and engagement.
Participation in CHC Events & Programming
- Assist with CHC signature events and student programming in collaboration with other student staff and CHC professional staff.
- Engage in community-building initiatives that foster a sense of belonging among CHC students.
Preferred Qualifications & Skills
- Strong interest in Research and the Honors College experience.
- Student leadership, engaging with other students
- Preferred experience with survey development, focus groups, or research methods (or willingness to learn).
- Ability to connect with diverse student populations and amplify student voices.
- Passion for supporting first-generation, transfer, and underserved students.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills.
- Willingness to complete ongoing professional development training (Narrative 4, for example).
Position Requirements
- Must be an undergraduate Commonwealth Honors College student.
- Comfortable working with students, advisors, and staff in a research-focused role.
- Able to commit to a full academic year.
- Must be available for Student Staff Training starting Thursday, August 28th, 2025.
