Dean of Commonwealth Honors College Mari Castañeda was elected to the Executive Board of the American Council on Education (ACE) Women's Network in Massachusetts. The organization is a "national system of networks within each state, Puerto Rico, and the District of Columbia with the goal of advancing and supporting women in higher education," as stated on their website.
Dean Castañeda was "absolutely elated" when she found out about her election
"This board is led by a powerful group of academic women leaders from across the Commonwealth who are committed to empowering and supporting women in higher education, and I am thrilled to be part of the team," she said.
In her new role, the dean hopes to accomplish the committee's goal of increasing the number of women leaders from UMass Amherst and other colleges and universities in Western Massachusetts to participate as members. She also hopes to encourage women leaders in the region to attend the "excellent professional development events" that are offered through the network.
"I look forward to learning from my fellow board members and deepening my leadership skill set to better serve Commonwealth Honors College and our campus community," said Dean Castañeda.
