Meet the Honors Student Staff: Administrative Assistants

Welcome to Commonwealth Honors College (CHC)! At CHC, we have a variety of student staff teams that are dedicated to helping you make the most of your experience here. This series will highlight all their different functions and how you can make use of these resources, and potentially join them in the future!
The administrative assistants are students that assist the administration team with a variety of tasks around the College. They are on the third floor and jointly work under the Accountant, the Assistant Dean of Administration and Finance, and the HR Generalist and Administrative Coordinator.
Dan Delorey found out about the role through the UMass Student Employment Job Board and applied because he thought it would be a good opportunity to learn what it is like to work in an office setting. “Prior to this role, the only job experience I had was hometown summer jobs (grocery store, landscaping, etc.) and an internship that was fully remote,” he explained.
“It was also a good opportunity to stay busy during the week and make some spending money as well.”
Some of the work Dan does includes maintaining and updating staff and faculty lists in Excel, creating forms using Google Forms/Microsoft 365 Forms, planning for CHC events (Holiday Party, Deans Lunches, etc.), and keeping a weekly inventory of office and kitchen supplies.
“My favorite part about the job is how nice and friendly everyone at CHC is, from staff, faculty, and other student staff. It makes coming in each day enjoyable,” said Dan.
