The Secondary Education 4+1 pathway is designed for teachers passionate about working with students in middle and high school. You can specialize in the following subject areas:

Middle and High School:  Mathematics, Science (Biology, Chemistry, General Science, Physics), English and History.

Fast Facts about Secondary Education 4+1

  • Begin the application process in your junior year. The deadline is mid-January.
  • Transfer up to 12 credits earned as an undergraduate.
  • Steps towards admission:
    1. Attend an info session (Fall of junior year)
    2. Submit your application

    3. Meet with an advisor to choose eligible classes

Secondary Education 4+1: 180 Days

Benefits:

1. Gain experience teaching mathematics, history, science, or English

2. Teach full-time for the entire academic year

3. Option to earn a license in a second subject area

4. Receive a $3,000 stipend when placed in the Springfield School District

2. Teach part-time in the fall and full-time in the spring.

3. Flexibility to take additional courses (summer, fall, or winter).
