College of Education doctoral student Syonara Tomoum works as an adult and youth education coordinator at the Jewish Family Service of Western Massachusetts. In an interview with MassLive, she describes her work developing a program to provide English literacy education for Afghan refugees.
“There is so much that has happened because of this class. I had nothing in mind but to teach the women English and to make them leave their homes and come to meet each other in a communal place. It is serving the community by tailoring the program to their needs,” Tomoum says.
