Elizabeth Broderick '26, just graduated from the UMass Amherst College of Education with a degree in early childhood education, is one of eleven seniors to receive the UMass Amherst Alumni Association's Senior Leadership Awards, given to students who "have demonstrated outstanding leadership and service to the UMass Amherst community" and "distinguished themselves through important contributions to student organizations, campus jobs, academic excellence, and community service."
"What I loved about Elizabeth from the first day I met her, is how focused, organized, and committed she was to her studies and future goals," says Lecturer Eirini Pitidou, who coordinates the Early Childhood Education program at the College of Education. "As an experienced gymnast, she learned through her engagement in competitions from a very young age how to apply discipline in all the areas of her life—including academics. I have no doubt that she will be a leader in her chosen career path and will excel as an early childhood teacher. Achieving excellence is part of her core identity."
"I’m excited to begin my career working with young learners and grow as an early childhood educator," says Broderick, who is currently in the process of applying for teaching positions for the upcoming school year. "I also plan to continue coaching gymnastics, which has been such an important part of my life and leadership experience."
Broderick is one of 116 seniors who graduated from the College of Education in May, with concentrations in Community Education & Social Change, Early Childhood Education, and Special Education. Learn more about undergraduate programs.
