Stephanie Gendron, MPPA '23, has been named a Presidential Management Fellow (PMF) finalist. PMF, a highly selective and rigorous program open to holders of advanced degrees from all academic disciplines, is the premier leadership development program for the Federal Government.
Gendron has been a social scientist at the IRS. In an interview with the School of Public Policy, Gendron said, "I use research methodology to design studies that test the effectiveness of IRS tax collection practices. Our work aims to identify practices that help the IRS improve its tax collection rate and customer experience." Fellows in a two-year PMF program typically complete rotations at multiple federal agencies, or at a different department within the same agency. "I am still excited to adventure beyond my typical role and explore either a different federal agency or a different position because it will give me a new perspective to view my usual role," Gendron said.
The PMF website notes that the appointment "comes with full salary and benefits, challenging assignments, training and development, mentoring, plus an opportunity to make government work better."
"I studied public policy because I was sick of feeling powerless when seeing all the woes people face in this country. I wanted to equip myself with the tools to not only identify the problems but solve them. SPP equipped me with many methodological skills to serve me well as a PMF," reflected Gendron.
