Charli Carpenter, political science and Human Security Lab, recently penned a column about the ethical dilemma facing U.S. troops today.

"Even the troops themselves are questioning what they would do if asked to turn on their fellow Americans. According to new survey data from the Human Security Lab at UMass Amherst, which I direct, the vast majority of them recognize the duty to disobey an unlawful order and are able to imagine such scenarios. Whether they would actually disobey an order when push comes to shove, however, is a murkier question," writes Carpenter.
