A recent Tech Advocate article on removing pesticides from produce cites research led by Lili He of the College of Natural Sciences's Department of Food Science, which found a combination of baking soda and water was the most effective way to reduce pesticides on fruit:

"A study by the University of Massachusetts found that soaking fruits and vegetables in a baking soda solution can be an effective way to remove some pesticides. Mix about one teaspoon of baking soda into two cups of water and soak your fresh produce for 12-15 minutes."
