Master of Science in Physics
A non-thesis, course-based program with great flexibility.
The MS in physics at UMass Amherst is a course-based, non-thesis program that gives you the flexibility to tailor your degree to help prepare for a PhD program or a career in industry.
You can choose to engage in research with our outstanding faculty, probing the structure of matter, fundamental symmetries, and forces of nature through complementary experiments and theoretical studies.
You can also design your own course sequence to emphasize specific subfields, modeling, or instrumentation, gaining critical training for jobs in the industry. For example, you might decide to build an interdisciplinary curriculum to prepare for a career in geophysics, engineering, polymer science, or data science.
