Demonstrate intermediate proficiency in Spanish
This requirement can be satisfied by taking one of the following, or by placement test:
Foundational linguistics courses (9 credits)
Linguistics electives (9 credits)
Take three courses, selected out of any LINGUIST 300+ courses.
Take Spanish 311: Advanced Grammar (3 credits)
SPAN 314 is recommended for heritage speakers.
Spanish Phonetics/Pronunciation course (3 credits)
Take one of the following:
Take Spanish 470: General View of Hispanic Linguistics (3 credits)
Spanish Literature course (4 credits)
Select one course from among the following:
Spanish Culture and Civilization course (3 credits)
Select one course from among the following:
Hispanic linguistics course (3-4 credits)
Select 1 course from among the following:
Junior Year Writing (JYW, 3 credits)
The Junior Year Writing (JYW) requirement is met by taking any linguistics course that counts towards the JYW requirement or Spanish 312. A current list of Linguistics JYW courses can be found on the Linguistics Major and Requirements page. The Junior Year Writing requirement does not need to be satisfied in your junior year.
Integrative Experience (IE, 3 credits)
The Integrative Experience (IE) requirement is met by taking any Linguistics department or Spanish IE course. A current list of Linguistics IE courses can be found on the Linguistics Major and Requirements page. A current list of Spanish IE courses can be found on the Spanish Integrative Experience page.
Other major requirements
A grade of C or better must be earned in any course used to satisfy major requirements.
College graduation requirements: HFA Foreign Language requirement. All students must demonstrate proficiency in a foreign language at the intermediate level.
