HFA Global Engagement Award
Award
This recognition annually awards $1,000 to a faculty member who has expanded their work beyond the habitual reach of the University and established global partnerships through research, community engagement, or teaching. The recipient is recognized at an end-of-year HFA Awards and Recognition ceremony.
Eligibility
Nominees shall be full-time HFA faculty who demonstrate excellence in global engagement through research, teaching, or service.
Excellence in global engagement entails initiating, creating and sustaining innovative programs involving research, teaching, or service that address a critical global issue affecting different communities on an international scale.
Nomination and Selection
- Full-time HFA faculty and lecturers on continuous appointments may be nominated.
- Nominations, which may be made by Department chairs, department personnel committees, and directors of centers or institutes, are due by January 31, 2026. The nomination form is available on the UMass InfoReady portal on August 26, 2025.
- Nominations require a 750–1,000-word statement highlighting the nominee’s accomplishments in forming a global partnership and expanding their work beyond the habitual reach of the University.
- Repeat nominations are allowed however departments are encouraged to rotate nominees
- All nominations are confidential.
- An ad-hoc committee ranks the nominations and submits their recommendation to the Dean. The Dean’s finalists are announced in the spring.
Award Management
The HFA Business Office transfers the award monies to the recipient's retention account.
As always, funding must be used in accordance with the University Business Expense Policy.
