About
Sophomore, Class of 2026
Hometown: Chicopee, MA
Major(s): Speech, Language, and Hearing Sciences
Hello! My name is Michelle and I am a second year student from Chicopee, MA majoring in Speech, Language, and Hearing Sciences. I am a daughter of Polish immigrants and a first-generation college student. During my first year, I was in the Honors Contemporary Problems Residential Academic Program (RAP), where I not only built relationships with fellow first year honors students, but was also introduced to the many opportunities the Honors college offers. I am also a member of the National Student Speech Language Hearing Association where I prepare with fellow students to become either a Speech Language Pathologist or an Audiologist. Additionally, I am pursuing a certificate in creative writing in hopes of becoming an author one day. Outside of academics, I enjoy doing yoga at the recreation center, hiking the nearby mountains, and reading a good book.
What is Honors housing like? Do all Honors Students live there and/or on-campus?
"Housing in the Commonwealth Honors College consists of six buildings: Oak, Sycamore, Birch, Elm, Maple, and Linden. Oak and sycamore are designated for first-year students and they mainly consist of doubles with a sprinkle of singles and triples. Each floor in Oak and Sycamore also consists of communal bathrooms and a common room. Birch, Elm, Maple, and Linden offer housing for upperclassmen and consist of suites and apartments. All honors dorms also have air conditioning which I am personally extremely grateful for! At UMass Amherst, all first-year students are required to live on campus. Although each first-year student is guaranteed housing on campus, Honors housing itself is not a guarantee. Additionally, Honors students may choose to live in other residential communities outside of Honors."
