Rebecca Woodland and Injila Rasul

The research paper titled "Assessing the Impact of Professional Learning Communities on Teacher Enactment of Culturally-Responsive Science Curriculum," co-authored by Mathematics, Science, & Learning Technologies (MSLT) doctoral student Injila Rasul, Professor Rebecca Woodland, and Research, Evaluation, Measurement, & Psychometrics (REMP) doctoral student Fernando Mena Serrano, was honored with the 2024 Lorne H. Woollatt Distinguished Paper Award at the Northeastern Educational Research Association (NERA) conference. This prestigious award, named after esteemed New York State educator and NERA member Lorne H. Woollatt, is presented annually to the paper that achieves the highest average rating based on criteria such as relevance, theoretical foundation, clarity, design, analytical procedures, and presentation of results and conclusions.

The award committee recognized the paper for its outstanding contribution to educational research, particularly in exploring how professional learning communities influence teachers' implementation of culturally-responsive science curricula. As recipients of this award, the authors are invited to present their work at the 2025 meeting of the American Educational Research Association (AERA), which will be held in Denver from April 23 through April 27, further disseminating their findings to a broader academic audience.
