The Southern Hilltowns Adult Education Center (SHAEC) started in the summer of 1999 and is a program of The Partnership for Worker Education at UMass Amherst. The Partnership for Worker Education is part of the Office of Human Resources of UMass Amherst.
SHAEC is a community resource for adult learners. It supports the student's education and career goals in a learner-led environment. Individuals from the Southern Hilltowns of Russell, Middlefield, Chester, and Huntington can study math, science, reading, writing, social studies, computers, and other subjects designed to enhance workplace skills and encourage leadership. The Center honors and welcomes the rich diversity of its community of learners and teachers.
