Workplace English
The Partnership for Worker Education offers five Workplace English classes for predominantly custodial and dining service employees. All classes aim to improve students’ communication skills in speaking, listening, reading, and writing English. Classes are small, enabling teachers to design lessons to meet learners’ needs and goals. Respect for all cultures is emphasized.
Beginning classes focus on the workplace by increasing vocabulary, following instructions, understanding safety issues in that setting and introducing basic grammar. In the more advanced classes, we emphasize increasing fluency in communication at home and at work, improving sentence construction and grammar, and understanding the cultural nuances of English in different settings. All classes provide extensive conversational practice, building learner confidence, and self-expression in a new language and culture.
