Online Bachelor of Arts in Sociology: FAQs

What skills will I develop with a sociology degree?

Sociology majors gain the tools needed to critically analyze our ever-changing world. You will learn the basics of research and data analysis, written and verbal communication skills, problem-solving, and gain a global perspective on societies. These skills are applicable across many fields, including law, public relations, policy development and analysis, social work, criminal justice, and more.

Is this program fully online?

Yes! Our program is designed to meet the needs of students who may not be able to be present on campus. Courses are offered through all four semesters (fall, winter, spring, and summer), giving you the opportunity to meet requirements on a schedule that works for you.

How long does it take to complete the program?

It depends. The program is designed as a four-year bachelor’s degree; however, courses are offered during winter and summer semesters, meaning that motivated students may be able to complete the degree more quickly.

Will I be able to meet with an advisor online?

Absolutely. Sociology students meet with advisors on a regular basis for check-ins on degree progress, developing a schedule of coursework focused on your interests and making sure your needs are being met.

Is career support available?

Yes, the Department of Sociology and the College of Social and Behavioral Sciences offer a number of career supports. Within the college, the SBS Career Pathways Center offers a range of services, including resume editing and interview preparation for SBS majors. We also have an active LinkedIn group where students and alumni can connect.
